Rumble At The Roseland 42 - Preview and Fight Card

Press Releases from The Full Contact Fighting Federation

Portland, OR - There are three confirmed Title Fights and possibly a fourth along with the first ever collegiate wrestling match taking place inside "The Slammer"!

In our main event of the evening, FCFF Welterweight Champion Justin Nelson will defend his title for the first time against the 8 win and 1 loss Jacob Oyler out of Kalispell, Montana. Jacob, a fighter who trains with Straight Blast Gym out of Montana, has every intention of taking home a new belt when he returns to the Treasure State. Nelson, a product of Team Quest knows the importance of retaining his title so he can get the pro contract he has been chasing for 10 years. The stakes are definitely high in our main event and we at the FCFF hope you can be there to witness it all go down!

For the Bantamweight Championship (135 pounds), champion Corey Roska of Straight Blast Gym will return to the cage for the first time to defend his title against up-and-comer Blake "The Snake" Brown. Roska is deadly on his feet, using his powerful hands to throw bombs while Brown is slick as a snake on the ground with his jiu-jitsu skills. Depending where the majority of this fight takes place will most likely decide who leaves that night with the championship belt.

In the Light Heavyweight division, a division that has been owned by FCFF Champion Pro Escobedo who has decided to relinquish his title and move forward with a professional career welcomes two FCFF veterans to this championship bout. Jason Sharp, of the newly formed Alive MMA gym will fight Arsenal Combat's Rob Gibbs. Both fighters are very strong and very talented and both feel it is their time to be the next FCFF Light Heavyweight Champion.

You have seen it in high schools, colleges, the Olympics, and probably on your living room floor. But the sport of wrestling just got a lot more interesting as of Saturday March 21. Miles Hygelund, a 3 time All-State wrestler and 2 time state finalist from Canby, Oregon and the highly regarded All-Phase Wrestling Club will enter the slammer for the first time to wrestle 7th ranked in the nation and 2 time Washington High School State Champion, Taylor Meeks of Orting, Washington. There will be no out of bounds, there will be no place to run, and there will be no place to hide as these warriors will wrestle for six minutes in the first ever collegiate style wrestling match inside a cage. This will revolutionize the sport of wrestling and you can witness it all for the very first time in history at Rumble @ the Roseland on Saturday March 21.

Portland Fire Fighters Try to Extinguish Competition in the Cage
Portland, OR - On Saturday, March 21st three Portland fire fighters will step into the steel cage, known as "The Slammer" to compete in Portland's premier amateur mixed martial arts organization, the Full Contact Fighting Federation. The FCFF's main event, Rumble at the Roseland has been called the national "Golden Gloves of MMA" and has been featured on Inside MMA, a nationally broadcasted sports program, hosted by legendary fighter Bas Rutton.

The Rumble @ The Roseland 42 event features four Title Bouts at the 135, 170, 185, and 205 weight class divisions. This night of fights will pit the best MMA teams in the region against one-another. Seventeen MMA bouts and one wrestling match are slated for the event, plus watch rising star Jake Morris from Team Quest and The Shack extend his undefeated record.

Jason Sharp, a Portland Fire Fighter for the past eight years will take on Rob Gibbs of Arsenal Combat Sports for the 205-pound Championship. "Every man, in the last two years that has earned our Heavy Weight Championship belt has turned pro. This is what these guys are here for," says FCFF Matchmaker, Kevin Keeney. Sharp trains with friend and fellow firefighter David Lloyd. "We trained to become fire fighters together and now were training in MMA together," said Lloyd. Both fighters are training under Bill Bradley (formerly of Straight Blast Gym) and Chris Standing (formerly of SAGA - a mma gym) at Alive MMA. "The atmosphere at Alive is really good. There is a camaraderie there," said Sharp. "It's a level up at Alive, because it's a Brazilian Top Team," adds Lloyd.

The duo is also training at Portland Mai Thai Boxing to become as well rounded as possible. "I train hard for the standup but Jiu-Jitsu is where I started," said Sharp. Lloyd, a former Portland State Wrestler is currently 2-0, with two submission wins on his record. "My goal is to earn an FCFF belt. The FCFF is a well respected organization and earning a belt with them means being one step closer to turning pro," said Lloyd.

Dominic Frederickson, the other Portland Fire Fighter on the card comes from Jay Shaffer's gym: Touch M Up MMA in Vancouver. Frederickson started in Jay's basement and has followed him through the Xtreme Couture Gym to Touch M Up. "It's a great gym and Jay is a great trainer and there is a good vibe there. I think its one of the best gyms with a full cage and lots of one-on-one attention," said Frederickson. As a Gladstone High School wrestler, he showed promise early and went to State. In college he decided to pursue football and not wrestling, a decision he regrets now. While watching UFC fights, Frederickson wondered "Am I tough enough to do that?" He had never been in a fight and wanted to challenge himself - this curiosity and desire to stay in shape lead him to MMA training. His journey for an FCFF belt has been on hold over the past few events, his opponents seem to be dropping out at the last minute. "It's been a couple events, I want this FCFF belt and I am ready to go," said Frederickson.
