Team Quest's Pat "Bam Bam" Healy, fresh off his unanimous decision win over Lyle Beerbohm in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers on Feb 18th, talks with NW Fightscene's Spaniard about the fight and more here..

NW Fightscene: That was an unbelievable fight. First off, congratulations Pat. How do you feel after a fight like that?
Pat Healy: You know, it was a really tough satisfying fight. Came off it feeling really good. Didn't get beat up too bad.

NWFS: Did you walk away with any injuries at all?
Healy: No. Just the muscle soreness from after the fight, obviously it being a tough 3 round fight. I was sore but luckily no injuries, nothing serious. Started training again on Wednesday. So going good.

NWFS: That was a really high-paced, back and forth fight. Talk about the transitions & energy in that fight.
Healy: Its the first time anybody's really ever pushed me up against the cage and kept me against the cage, so hats off to Lyle on that. And I'm pretty good about whenever someone beats me down of popping right back up and so is Lyle, so that made for some serious transitions. Every time we hit the ground there was a little bit of scrambling and then right back up. And I scrambled into a couple really close submissions. Kind of odd ones too. Inverted triangle, was working my kimura off of. A couple from the crucifix. A couple of chokes that were pretty close. So yeah, it was a really fun fight to be a part of.

NWFS: Have you talked to or seen Lyle after the fight?
Healy: Not really. He said something to me on the Underground and I gave him props for a good fight. That's about it.

NWFS: What's it like, going through a war like that, at the end of the night?
Healy: You know, you come off it so wound up. All I really wanted to do was eat and nothing was really open to get food, so I just went to a convenient mart. I was so wound up and so was Matt Lindland who was cornering for me. We just sat up and watched TV until our flight left. We had to leave for our flight at 5:30. We ended up talking religion and politics, and those are always interesting with Lindland. He definitely has some strong views on those two subjects.

NWFS: Are you back in Oregon training or are you headed back over to the islands for training again?
Healy: I'm back in Oregon now. I'm going to be back training at Team Quest. I love it here, living in Oregon. I have done a little bit to diversify my training. Hooked up with George Sotiropoulos and some of the guys from Impact Jiu-jitsu. There's just like a really good crew of underground black belts and brown belts running around Portland that me and my brother [Ryan] have been able to hook up with and its really helped in that area.

NWFS: Speaking of your brother. Way, way back in the day, you guys had a fight team called Doomsday in Salem. Talk about the Pat Healy back in the Doomsday days, and talk about the Pat Healy we just saw on the main event last weekend?
Healy: (laughs) Yeah, we got into it pretty young and kind of on our own. Started training when we were like 18 and back in those days, we would just kind of scrap. We'd scrap with our friends, and me and my brother would just go at it. That's pretty much how we trained, which is way different from now. Its a lot more technical now. A lot more thinking into your training. And I had a completely different mentality back then. It wa 100 percent, full-speed ahead, swinging to try to knock peoples heads off. And just let the chips fall where they will. I guess that's just the kind of kid I was back then.

NWFS: And now, you've become a much more technical fighter?
Healy: Yeah, I put a lot of work into my technique. I think I've really realized the importance of getting a good game plan for a fight and sticking too it. In those days, I didn't stick to any type of game plan. I just went in there and swung. I think that's really important to have a good game plan when you're fighting.

NWFS: Now you were just over in Hawaii training with BJ Penn. You were part of his camp. BJ is fighting Sat at UFC 127 against Jon Fitch. How he's going to do?
Healy:
I feel confident BJ's going to win. A lot of people underestimate his takedown defense and his takedown ability. And I think he's got the right game plan to do what it takes to win this fight.

NWFS: You've been around MMA for a long time. Where do you see MMA going in the next ten years?
Healy: I think the sky's the limit. Its becoming more and more popular. People are really starting to take notice of it. They see it going mainstream and coming on the TV all the time.

NWFS: So you went to the islands but you still come back a white boy with no tan. What's the deal?
Healy: (Laughs) I thought that was an amazing tan, man! The best tan I ever had in my life. I thought everybody was going to be talking about it.

NWFS: Anyone you'd like to thank?
Healy: Yeah I want to thank bloodhappens.com, Last Round Nutrition, Danny Lagafuaina and everybody at Epic Sports Entertainment.
