DesertBrawl XXI was a night of domination by the Desert Dog Fight Team going undefeated

in all eight matches, and bringing home the professional 170lb title in stunning fashion.

Nick "Pimp" Gilardi defeated former champ Damion "Batten Down the" Hatch by stunning

knockout in 24 seconds to become the new DesertBrawl titleholder in

the welterweight division.

Gilardi was sick before the fight and very nervous throwing up and having the pre-fight bug,

but once he got inside the cage he was ready to go. The fighters were feeling each other

out and Damion was preparing for the takedown, but I do not think he was prepared for

what happened next. Once the fighters clinched Nick went straight for the Muay Thai clinch

and threw a knee, then another that landed right on the chin and sent Hatch to the canvas.

Gilardi pounced trying to end the fight as referee Hopi Jenkins stepped in for the safety of

the fighter. A new champion emerges threw it all with a highlight reel worthy KO in 24

seconds of the first round. This is a great for the Desert Dog Fight Team who is seeing

a newly revamped energy after the new acquisition of the DD Fight Facility.

In other pro title action, Roland "Bonecrusher" Grahm did exactly what he said he would

do by knocking out Trent "The Sandman" Standing again and keeping his title. Trent said

he was going to stand with Roland and he did staying away from Roland's hooks and

landing a few of his own even landing a nice knee, but then once they got mixed up it

was Roland who got the takedown. Once on the ground Roland landed some painful rights

from half-guard that eventually knocked out the Sandman at 1:42 in the first round.

New to the professional bracket, even though he made it look like an amateur fight,

Talon Hoffman took out former FCFF champ "Brutal" Brad Horner by rear naked choke in

1:32 seconds of the first round. After the bell it seemed Talon wanted to take the fight

to the ground and shortly after he did. Once the fight hit the ground talon made a transition

to mount that Brad didn't see coming and then gave his back. Brad is a very tough fighter

and will be back, but it looks like the pro lightweight division isn't getting any lighter.

In a Bad Blood fight that brought out a lot of blood from fighter Jeremy Free, Desert Dog

fighter Tomi "Last Minute" Massey improved to 6-2 in a dominating performance that showed

a lot of heart and no-quit attitude from Free. It was obvious Free was out of his league but

he stayed in there and gave it his all. The second they came out Massey landed a huge kick

to the midsection that looked like it was going to throw free to the other side of the cage

and the difference in power was evident, but it also seemed that the change in elevation

played a part on the usual cardio-king, since he moved to sweet home to train with some

wrestlers for this fight and he was only 300 above sea level. Massey tried to end this fight

in every way from spinning back fists, to baiting him by acting injured. Massey finally was

declared the winner after the ref stepped in and called the fight at 4:46 of the first round.

It was announced that Massey will face Bryson Gutches from the New World Fighters on

March 10 and this will bring two of the top 155lb'ers in Oregon face to face. Another up and

coming fighter was Chris Harden, who came in and landed a hard right hand that sent

fighter Jeff Pruit to the ground and once the blood was in the air Harden took his back and

sunk a tight choke that sounded victory at 1:04 in the first round. Another great KO came

from DD fighter Harley Slocum who just wouldn't stop throwing knees and good thing

because one of them landed and put Eli Williams to sleep at 1:55 in the first round.

Teammate Rudy Gonzales showed some great head movement and boxing skills, but

it was the ground skills that got him the choke out of his opponent Brain Neer at 41 seconds

of the first round to prove he is hear to stay. The amateur fighters are hungry and ready to

prove they belong in the professional bracket look to see these guys competing a lot more.

Last but not least, one of my favorite fights came from Team SAGA fighter Kevin Reeves

and DD fighter Rocky Jarret. From the start Reeves threw a hard over hand right

numerously and kept landing it, but once Jarret got a hold of him he hip tossed him and

started throwing some shots of his own from open guard. Once back to standing both

seemed to throw back and forth and the round ended with Jarret trying to sink a standing

guillotine choke. Round two saw Jarret blocking more punches with his head, and Reeves

trying to knock him out with overhand rights, but again once the fight hit the ground Jarret

took control and almost finished him with a triangle choke but rolled him instead and

started bombing away. After getting stuck in a bad way Reeves had to tap and the fight

was called at 3:33 of the second round.

The night was great and the fights were better so if you missed out go
