Brokenshire Set to Defend Featherweight Title against Talon Hofman

Press Release from Halquist Productions

Tacoma, WA (January 23rd, 2014) – The Northwest’s premier mixed martial arts promotion, CageSport MMA, is once again returning to the Emerald Queen Casino on Saturday, February 8th, showcasing an all pro ten bout card including a stellar main event with Drew “The Eternal Fire” Brokenshire putting his featherweight title on the line against Oregon’s Talon Hofman. Also being featured on the action packed card is five time world Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion, Miriam Cardoso, who will make her professional MMA debut.

Tickets for CageSport XXIX, scheduled for Saturday, February 8th, at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA are available and can be purchased at the EQC box office and online through Ticketmaster. Prices start at $35.

After defeating Julian Erosa for the CageSport featherweight title in 2012, Brokenshire (8-1) had an even bigger 2013, successfully defending his title against two of the region’s top featherweights, Enoch Wilson and Shorty Weikel. Following his victory over Weikel at CageSport XXV, Brokenshire was then set to defend his title against Lee Morrison (11-3) in what could have been the most highly anticipated fight of the year for Northwest MMA fans. However, shortly after the fight was announced, Morrison signed with M-1 Global, a popular MMA promotion based in Amsterdam, effectively ending the possibility of a Brokenshire vs. Morrison title fight.

Brokenshire’s next opponent, Talon Hofman (9-6), stands to be a tough challenge for Drew as Hofman is one of the best wrestlers in the Northwest. Graduating from Burns High School in Oregon, Hofman is a four time high school wrestling state champion, the 2003 Sierra Nevada Classic 152 pound champion, and a 2004 All American High School wrestler. Much like all of Brokenshire’s fights, the main event of CageSport XXIX figures to be a high energy bout with two fighters who will have a lot at stake when they step into the cage in front of an anticipated sold out 1900 seat EQC showroom.

Fans in attendance will also be treated to two women’s MMA bouts which will be a first for CageSport MMA. Five time world Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion, Miriam Cardoso, will take on Oregon’s Katie Howard in what will be the professional debut for both fighters. Also on the card is Seattle’s Reagan Benedetti who will also make her professional debut against British Columbia’s Cheryl Chan (0-1). With the recent surge of women’s MMA, it’s become more feasible to consistently put on women fights and with the growing talent of NW female MMA fighters, fans can count on CageSport to continue supporting women’s MMA.

Notable fighter on the undercard is Yakima MMA’s and former CageSport featherweight champion, Julian Erosa (10-2), who is looking to gain momentum once again after a disappointing defeat to Lee Morrison at CageSport XXV. Erosa is highly thought of around the Northwest MMA community and will have a few things to prove when he steps into the cage against Mike Joy (9-6) at CageSport XXIX.

Doors for CageSport XXIX open at 6 PM with the first fight scheduled for 7 PM. For more information about CageSport XXIX and all other Halquist Production events please visit
