Matt "The Attack" Kovacs en route to a TKO win over David Alexander

Dark Horse Entertainment presented Cage Warrior Combat "Pummel at the Point" on December 1st at The Point Casino in Kingston, WA. 6 pro and 5 amateur MMA bouts made up the fight card, with 10 of the 11 fights producing exciting finishes. In the main event, Full Circle Fight Club's Carl Edwards took on Spokane fighter Koa Ramos, representing SOBMMA. The pair had some good exchanges in the center until Edwards got the takedown and then finished on the ground with the referee stopping the fight for a first round TKO win for Edwards.

In the co-main event bout between Dustin Praxades and Brad Pole, Praxades came at Pole with a flying knee then grabbed his neck up against the cage as Pole grabbed a leg. Praxades gave up the neck to start punching Pole's body and head, while Pole meanwhile stayed low and grabbed both of Praxades legs to attempt a takedown. But in doing so he again exposed his neck and this time Praxades locked it the guillotine, rode Pole to the mat, and got the tap at 1:10 of the first round. Afterwards, Pole announced his retirement from fighting and symbolically left his gloves in the cage. He'll still be in the game though as head coach of the Eatonville MMA squad.

Matt Kovacs and David Alexander squared off in a heavyweight grudge match and when the bell rang, the pair immediately engaged with Kovacs landing a nice inside kick to the thigh. Alexander pressed forward throwing wild kicks and punches while the more disciplined Kovacs kept his base and countered well until both dropped all pretense and swung for the fences in a furious exchange. It was Kovacs who landed first, dropping Alexander to the canvas. Kovacs bypassed Alexander's legs, got side control and then transitioned into full mount where he would not be denied, raining down punches and forcing referee Jeff Hoiby to stop the contest at 1:33 of Rd 1.

In the pro battle between Ken "The Athlete" Alexander (no relation to David Alexander) and Chris Ensley, the pair spent the first part of the round on the feet, keeping distance and moving in to throw a kick or punch. Alexander was getting the better of it connecting with some thunderous kicks to Ensley's legs and so it was that Ensley shot in for a takedown. Alexander shucked it off and instead moved Ensley into the cage and took him to the mat. From there, Alexander got Ensley where he wanted, landing an elbow strike and then letting loose with numerous punches that forced the ref stoppage at 2:46 of the first round.

Eatonville MMA's Freddy Bauman learned a valuable lesson in his first pro bout. Taking on Base Fitmass MMA's Frankie "The Battle Goat" Orr, the fighters got a good tussle going, trading kicks and punches. Bauman shot in for a single leg, briefly taking it to the canvas, but Orr defended and got it back up to the feet and threw a couple knees in the clinch. The pair split and again went back trading punches. Orr connected to Bauman's face and immediately after Bauman inexplicably signaled a timeout to the referee, dropped his hands and walked towards the cage. Orr attacked with a series of punches to the head as Bauman had his back turned and referee Jeff Hoiby then jumped in and stopped the fight as Bauman was not defending himself. Apparently Bauman lost a contact lens and so he called the timeout, but in MMA a fighter can't unilaterally call a timeout. The fight goes into to the books as a TKO win for Orr at 2:58 Rd 1.

Gabriel Solorio and Lupe Hudgens had the longest fight of the night, going all three 5 minute rounds. This pro bout however was a one sided affair with Solorio displaying some great standup skills as he pummeled Hudgens throughout. Hudgens displayed a lot of heart and he would not be finished, but this one was all Solorio's and the judges agreed unanimously in his favor.

Cage Warrior Combat's next fight event is currently scheduled for April 20th, 2013. Learn more about the promotion at cagewarriorcombat.com.
