TORRES, PAKAU SQUARE OFF IN

BATTLE AT THE BOAT 79 MAIN EVENT

TACOMA, Wash. - David "El Torrito" Torres will meet Santos Pakau in a 10-round light welterweight main event at Battle at the Boat 79 at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma on Saturday. 

The 32-year-old Torres, a native of Othello, WA, is looking to rebound from just his second career defeat as he suffered a loss to former WBC Continental Americas super featherweight champion Raymundo Beltran in his last bout on Jan. 9.

The hard-hitting Torres, a former NABA light welterweight titlist, brings a record of 21-2-0 with 13 KOs into the contest with his only other career defeat coming against former International Boxing Federation World lightweight champion Julio Diaz on June 25, 2008. 

Pakau, who was born in Auckland, New Zealand, but now calls Spokane, Washington home, sports a record of 27-6-1 with 10 KOs with one of his defeats coming to current top-ranked middleweight Paul Williams.

In the co-main event, knockout specialist Lafarrell Bunting (16-3-1, 16 KOs) takes on Junior Moar (8-2-0, 2 KOs) in a 6-round World Boxing Organization NABO Light Heavyweight title eliminator contest with the winner of the bout meeting champion Otis Griffin (23-6-2, 9 KOs).

The 30-year-old Bunting has registered knockouts in all 16 of his victories with nine coming in the first round and went the 12-round distance in a 2007 loss to current WBC World light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal. 

Moar, who has never been off his feet in a bout, has notched six consecutive wins, including a victory over Billy Bailey for the vacant Canadian light heavyweight championship on June 19, 2009. 

Highlighting the undercard will be a battle between undefeated heavyweights Vincent Thompson and Charles Ellis, the 2003 National Golden Gloves heavyweight champions. 

Federal Way's Thompson has a record of 5-0-0 with a KO, while Ellis, who fights out of Vancouver, WA, is 6-0-1 with 5 KOs. 

Also appearing on the undercard will be light welterweight Miguel Garcia (2-1-1) and Seattle super featherweight Rob Diezel (3-1).
