Tacoma WA's Mike "Imagine Me" Gavronski beats Thomas Awimbono in the main event

Halquist Productions closed out their 2016 boxing year at the Emerald Queen Casino with Battle at the Boat 108 on Nov 19th. All 6 pro contests on this well-balanced card went the distance, providing a full 32 rounds of non-stop boxing action for an appreciative crowd.

Tacoma’s Mike Gavronski made his 2nd straight Battle at the Boat main event appearance this year, and picked up his 2nd straight win, putting in a masterful performance en route to a lopsided unanimous decision win over Ghana’s Thomas Awimbono. Gavronski worked hard to put away a durable Awimbono, connecting time and time again with big bombs, but Awimbono would not go down. Awimbono would have his moments, scoring with some nasty shots later in the fight. But this Gavronski’s fight, quickly closing down any momentum Awimbono would get and controlling the action to the final bell. After 10 rounds of fighting, the judges scorecards read 100-90, 99-91, 98-91 in favor of Gavronski who moves his record to 22-2-1.

In the Semi-main event, Marco Cardenas of Salem OR and Yakima’s Andres Reyes fought for the 3rd time professionally, the first two meetings resulting in a Draw and a Win for Reyes. On this evening, it was Cardenas who was the better boxer, outscoring Reyes with power and precision over the course of the fight, including two knockdowns. After 6 rounds of action, the judges scorecards all read 59-54 for Cardenas.

Tacoma’s Andre Keys moved to 3-1 as a pro by outworking Yakima’s Nate Serrano over four rounds for a unanimous decision win 40-36 x2, 39-37.

Zach Cooper of Seattle and Antonio Neal of Sunnyside WA went the distance in a fast-paced 4-round welterweight contest. A close back-and-forth battle was reflected in the judges scorecards, two seeing it for Cooper 39-37, and the third for Neal 39-37, giving Cooper the split decision victory.

22 year old Giovanni Cabrera-Mioletti, fighting out of Chicago, moved his record to 4-0 by outpacing Kent WA’s Niko McFarland over four rounds in a 138 lb bout for the unanimous decision, all 3 judges seeing it 40-36.

The night’s first fight came in the heavyweight division with Yakima’s Carlos Villaneuva winning his pro debut over Selah WA’s Jose Rocha by Unanimous Decision 40-36 x3.

Halquist Productions is at the EQC on Dec 17th with an all-pro CageSport MMA show, and then on January 20th, boxing returns with Battle at the Boat 109.
