Undefeated Carr, Gavronski set to clash at Battle at the Boat 107

Press Release from Halquist Productions

Australian champion to face local favorite in super middleweight main event

TACOMA, Wash. – Super middleweights Mike Gavronski and Jake Carr headline a stacked Battle at the Boat 107 card at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma on Saturday.

Gavronski (20-2-1) and Carr (11-0-0) are both looking to crack the world’s top 10 rankings with a victory. The 10-round bout represents the U.S. debut for unbeaten Carr, a former Australian Super Middleweight titleholder.

Weights for Battle at the Boat 107 will take place Friday.

Tickets are available through the EQC box office and all Ticketmaster Outlets. Preliminary bouts start at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Battle at the Boat 107 will feature the all new VIP experience with 3rd Row Seats being discounted to $75 per ticket. All fans seated in in the VIP section (rows 1-3) will have an exclusive access point and a dedicated server to help create a true VIP experience.

“This main event has so many intriguing subplots heading into it. Mike is attempting to rebound from a rare loss, Jake is fighting in the United States for the first time and trying to stay undefeated, and the winner of this fight could very easily see themselves ranked in the top 10 depending on the outcome,” said promoter Brian Halquist. “It’s just a fantastic match-up. Gavronksi always puts on a show for the Tacoma crowd and from what I’ve seen from Carr, it’s a world class main event.”

Born in Melbourne, Australia, the 24-year-old Carr brings an unblemished record into the contest. He currently trains out of Justin Fortune’s Fortune Gym in Los Angeles.

“The experience over here has been amazing so far. We have had some very high quality sparring and training and I’ve been improving with every session,” Carr said about working with Fortune, a former heavyweight contender and fellow Australian countryman. “All of my training camps have been very good, but where this experience has differed is that I’m training with a lot higher quality fighters, in a country where boxing is very popular. It is a great feeling.”

Gavronski, a native of Tacoma, suffered a rare defeat in his last bout on Nov. 7, 2016 when he lost by decision to Dashon Johnson in a bout for the WBA-NABA USA super middleweight championship. Gavronski won the first meeting between the two on Jan. 1, 2015.

Gavronski’s only other career setback occurred against current WBC Silver middleweight champion Tureano Johnson two years ago when Gavronski lost by decision in a bout for the vacant WBC Continental Americas middleweight title.

“People have been asking me for a quite a while now when will Mike step back into the ring,” promoter Brian Halquist said. “He’s turned into the people’s champion here in Tacoma. We have had hundreds of fighters box here. I am not sure there’s been one as popular as Mike Gavronski.”

The six-bout card will also feature a semi-main at 150 pounds between Andre Keys and Antonio Neal, and featured undercard bouts with crowd favorite Andres Reyes and local MMA superstar Drew Brokenshire.
